E3 2004 - Random News Bits and Opinion

Well that's it! It was one hell of an E3 as usual and there can only be one winner... drum roll please... the Big N themselves... NINTENDO! I was mentioning to Tyler that the DS just gets me all excited about gaming. It's about going beyond the whole idea of the traditional console/portable and taking gaming to new levels of experience. Sony had one game I was into, the 3rd party developed METAL GEAR SOLID 3 which looks absolutly phenominal. X-Box has a great number such as the Halo 2, Half Life 2, Doom 3 and Outrun 2. Nintendo has a ton of exciting games for the Cube such as Metroid Rime 2: Echoes, Star Fox, Fire Emblem and Zelda. Their GBA will be hit with Sonic Advance 3, Pokemon Fire/Red-Leaf/Green, Mario Pinball, DK Country 2, Zelda Minish Cap and of course the cool GBA Video cartoon episodes of Sonic X and Pokemon. Enjoy the archived news below with links to wonderful content. Tyler and I should have our final impressions of the big show very shortly. - Kelley

Thursday, May 13 - With one more day to go, E3 wil wrap up for the year. If you haven't already, head over to Nintendo's E3 Page and start watching all of their videos. Not only that but they have 4 webcams in place for you to check things out during the show. Awsome! Looks like Resident Evil 4 is getting huge props from gamers. This game looks phenominal on the GC. The upcoming Pokemon GBA games will include the wireless adapters for free in package. It's just those nice little touches that Nintendo does that just gets you excited about gaming and its future potentials. Shortly, I should have an article up about the event and how Nintendo schooled averyone's asses!

- Ubisoft has announced the release dates for Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow for the PS2 and GC. The PS2 crap edition will hit stores mid-June for all your low-frame rate adventures. The much better GC edition will hit the shelves July 1st and will be GBA link compatible, featuring the same cool connectivity as last year. Meanwhile, Rainbow Six 3 will include a 2 player co-op mode for the Cube and possibliy GBA connectivity.

Wednesday, May 12 - With press conferences finished, the main show is on the road at E3. I was worried all of the sudden that I'd have to purchase a SONY PSP since Konami is developing a METAL GEAR SOLID game for it. Soon I discover that it's just a card game. So I am relieved by that. The DS is looking more and more tasty. You see Tyler and I can have our Metroid Prime's loaded up in the unit, sit a few feet apart and start multi-playin' right off the bat. You can walk downtown and the thing will go off if another user is within the 100 ft transmited range and you can start playin' together right away. When Tyler goes to Japan, the thing is going to be constantly going off. Everyone is going to have DS. Nintendo's conference rocked, a huge improvement over last year's. I got a huge kick out of the Pac-Man VS. connectivity and the Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes presentation but it felt a bit thin. This year's had no focus on the connectivity element and all fronts on great games. Zelda is going to rock. Metroid is going to explode. Paper Mario 2 is going to be beautiful. Mario 64 on the DS for me is a dream come true. Too be able to play one of the greatest games ever made on the go kicks ass. Can't wait for those N64 Zelda's to hit the DS... ahh the glory. How about a remake of the original Paper MArio RPG for the DS as well! Oh yeah baby!

- Sega is pumpin' out less this year. Look for The Matrix Online co-published by them. Sonic Team's Phantasy Star Universe is inspiring, no word if it's a traditional RPG or online experince. Sonic Advance 3 is headed out at the end of the month and will feature co-op play which is very cool. Outrun 2 for the X-Box is a dream come true. Over the years Sega has seen increased profit. Let's hope that continues so that more creative ventures such as their Eye Toy game can be created.

Tuesday, May 11 - 15:13 - Microsoft's press conference ended with the usual title announcements. Very exciting stuff such as the exclusive Halo 2, Doom 3 and Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic 2 will be released by end year. A bunch of 3rd party stuff was also unvieled, namely EA shit. About EA, they officialy announced they are going X-Box Live which should piss Sony off. Ha! Ha Ha! Even less reason to pick up a PS2, excellent!

Tuesday, May 11 - 14:16 - Nintendo's Press Conference was all a glowin' with the unveiling of the Nintendo DS (Developer System). Able to produce 2D and 3D graphics on its duel-touch screens, the new portable handheld will be backwards compatible with the entire GB line and has got developers worldwide very, very excited. Sony, you are going to have one hell of a time getting that kind of excitment for your PSP, which has left developers pissed off. One of the first titles announced for it is Metroid Prime: Hunters all in 3D and looking fantastic. Star Fox for the GC will hit November providing Namco plenty of time for polish. Mario VS. Donkey Kong is going to kick ass. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is realy going to suck... It going to fuckin' rule! Pokemon Leaf Green and Fire Red will hit the GBA very soon. If all of that shit gets you hot and bothered... let's finish it off with this. Head over to Nintendo's site for tons of media.

Tuesday, May 11 - 13:07 - Bungie and Microsoft are gettin' hulked up for Halo 2's release - November 9th, 2004. With it's impressive 3D engine, new multiplayer abilities and X-Box Live play, this game is going to kick major alien ass! Looking for a gamers headache? We'll SONY just announced a price drop for it's under powered DVD player, the PS2. You can pick one up for about 50 bucks cheaper. With that extra cash you can stalk up on Tylenol.

Tuesday, May 11 - 12:32 - Nintendo and Capcom got a new Zelda game headed for the GBA entitled The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. From the title I guess you go around capin' Minishs. Damn you Minish! I'm gonna bust a cap in your ass! Midway is doing a sequel to it's "Don't Do Drugs" arcade classic, NARC. I'm not sure if it's going to be a side-scolling epic with you dressed in cyber futuristic SWAT gear utilizing cyber futuristic weapons, but the cast will include Ron Pearlman (cool!) and Micheal Madsen (cool!). Cool!
